Pharmacy Technician

he incumbent works closely with the pharmacy management in establishing overall operational policies and procedures in accordance with manuals, directives and memorandums. Directs and critically reviews the work of other pharmacy technicians, student technicians, volunteers and technical trainees assigned to the CVVMAC pharmacy. Incumbent will train all non-professional pharmacy personnel and volunteers. Technician supervisor will assist in technician and volunteer scheduling and assure that each duty has at least one back-up technician. Monitors workflow of the prescription filling process. Reports and resolves problems with CMOP and CBOC's. Insures all equipment is maintained, that operator maintenance is performed and employee competencies on equipment are fulfilled. Fills outpatient, discharge, mail, and controlled substance prescriptions following established guidelines and standard operating procedures. The incumbent will work with the procurement technician and pharmacy management on special order items for patients. Should the need arise; incumbent may perform the duties of technicians assigned to the pharmacy. Responsible for reporting payroll information when necessary. Incumbent is responsible for general orderliness and cleanliness of the work environment. Plans, prioritizes and assigns daily work activities to be accomplished on each shift. Coordinates work assignments in order to cover peak work periods and absences/vacancies. Directs staffing and workload assignments and coordinates with Pharmacy management. Coordinates leave schedules, approves/disapproves leave requests and makes recommendations to the pharmacy management regarding leave action. Reviews the quantitative, qualitative aspects of each technician's accomplishments with the technician on an ongoing basis and reports significant positive or negative aspects to the Pharmacy management at once. Oversees monthly ward inspections and/or quality assurance inspections throughout the pharmacy. Serves as advisor to the Pharmacy management in the completion of performance evaluations and competencies and helps establish criteria for acceptable performance. Technician Supervisor is responsible for performance appraisals, competencies, rewards and disciplinary action for all pharmacy technicians. Work Schedule:

Experience. One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) at the next lower level. KSAs at the next lower level are as follows:

A pharmacy technician will not generally be required to lift more than 40 pounds. The VistA system is used for varying lengths of time. Incumbent must be able to work accurately standing for long hours. The work also requires significant amounts of walking, stooping, kneeling and reaching. Work is performed in the pharmacy areas with only normal safety precautions required. Additional work may be performed at nursing stations located throughout the medical center with minimal potential for exposure to disease. The work is performed in an environment with variable room temperatures where air circulation is not ideal. Pharmacy telephone calls are received frequently.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
