Carl Vinson VAMC is seeking (2) Physicians (Acupuncturists) for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service The Doctor of acupuncture is responsible providing professional clinical services to veterans in the Pain Management Clinic (PMC) section within the coordination of care to patients with neuromuscular and musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.
The position is under the direct administrative supervision of the Geriatrics & Extended Care Service Line (G&ECSL) Manager and is expected to provide clinical services to patients in the Pain Management clinics.
The work is comprised of providing clinical services consistent with accepted standards of ethical and professional practices of the profession.
The professional Acupuncturist will be able to function independently in all clinical activities and is expected to make autonomous decisions regarding clinical issues for the treatment and the pain management of patients.
The Acupuncturist will use skills developed in the fulfillment of education requirements for their accredited training programs, to routinely perform inpatient and outpatient musculoskeletal and neuromuscular diagnoses and treatments that emphasize function, rehabilitation, pain management and injury prevention along with patient wellness Treats patients with painful and function-limiting musculoskeletal disorders of the spine, peripheral joints, and soft tissues such as sprains/strains, disc herniation, rheumatologic conditions, degenerative, developmental, acquired, and traumatic neuromuscular conditions of the upper and lower limbs, spinal cord, and brain Prescribes therapeutic exercise and other rehabilitation modalities o Interprets diagnostic studies that evaluate a patient's musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems such as CT, myelography, bone scan, and MRI.
o Assess a patient's medical condition by reviewing his or her medical history, listening to the patient's concerns and performing a physical examination.
o Analyze the patient's posture and spine.
o Provide musculoskeletal therapy which involves adjusting a patient's spinal column and other joints by hand.
o Evaluate a patient's posture by taking or ordering x-rays.
o Provide additional treatments, such as applying heat or cold to a patient's injured areas.
o Advise patients on health and lifestyle issues, such as exercise and sleep habits.
o Refers patients to other medical specialist if needed.
o During the course of employment, participation in special projects pertinent to assigned sub-specialty may be necessary as the projects become available with strategic or other initiative.
o Adjust spinal column and other articulations of the body to correct abnormalities of the human body believed to be caused by interference with the nervous system.
o Examine patient to determine nature and extent of disorder.
Manipulate spine or other involved area.
o Acupuncturist may utilize supplementary measures, such as exercise, rest, water, light, heat, and nutritional therapy.

Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
