Security Assistant

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Security Assistant is assigned to the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center Police Service and assists in the administrative duties of a variety of programs in support of the mission of the Police Service.
MAJOR DUTIES:
The incumbent supports the VA Personal Identification Verification (PIV) program.
Duties include:
evaluating applicants' eligibility and identity; taking applicants' photos; composing and printing applicant' ID cards; administering proximity access on cards; approve or deny applicants' request; provides information according to established policies and procedures; receives calls, greets and interviews customers to determine assistance needed; answer procedural questions and provides information on routing processes; prepares documents and correspondence; provides general office supply and equipment support services.
The incumbent meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.
Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner.
Incumbent provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
Receives phone calls and greets and interviews customers to determine assistance needed and nature of services required.
Determines if customer should be referred to a staff member within the office or to a different program office in the facility.
Answers simple, frequently asked procedural questions and provides information on routine processes.
On own initiative may query and/or interface with outside contacts to request or obtain interpretation and procedural advice to resolve a variety of non-routine/ non-recurring program assistance problems.
Provides office forms, publications, and handouts.
Provides routine assistance and guidance on use and purpose of program documents.
Prepares routine documentation for customers by assisting in the completion of forms and documents using standard forms, letters and other information necessary to respond to the needs of the specific customer.
May be required to revise standard forms and letters when the situation arises.
Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication.
The correspondence is varied and ranges from within the Carl Vinson VAMC to other VAMCs, follows up with subordinate staff members regarding correspondence, recurring and non-routine reports.
Develops cost analyses, advises and assists in budgeting requirements.
Obtains and monitors the use of services, supplies, or equipment for the office.
Provides general office supply and equipment support services such as obtaining office supplies and services to meet the needs of the service.
Other duties as required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
